| In 1984 one of the first actions taken by the Club
was to erect a portakabin to provide club facilities in addition to the existing
wooden structure which was used as a locker room. Unfortunately the locker
room building was destroyed by fire in May 1989 when Tom Edwards was President and
many members lost their bowls in the fire. A new building was provided by
the YMCA which forms the current locker room and toilet facilities.
In 2008 the YMCA moved from Kirkhill to Queensway in an exchange with Midlothian Council but retained the bowling green. In 2015 the YMCA offered the sale of the bowling green to the Members of KBC and a steering committee was formed to consider the proposal and liaise with the YMCA. The Club decided to purchase the Green and the cost of £35,000 was raised by member’s donations, club funds and a generous interest free loan from a member of the club. In 2023 the club celebrated 40 years of existence with its present name. 2026 will be the 100th anniversary of a bowling club in its present location. |
